At St Michael’s, we celebrate Design and Technology as a creative expression of God-given talents and a pathway to innovation and problem-solving. Our DT Curriculum, aligned with the National Curriculum for Key Stages 1 and 2, is designed to inspire children to imagine, design, and create with purpose and ingenuity.

Foundations in Key Stages 1 and 2

In Key Stage 1, children embark on a journey of discovery through DT, exploring basic design principles and experimenting with materials and construction techniques. They engage in hands-on projects that encourage creativity and problem-solving, such as designing and building simple structures, creating moving toys, and exploring the properties of different materials. Through these activities, children begin to appreciate the beauty and functionality of God’s creation as they apply their learning to real-world challenges.

As children progress to Key Stage 2, our DT curriculum expands to encompass more complex design challenges and technological processes. Children develop their skills in designing, making, and evaluating products, drawing on knowledge from subjects such as science, mathematics, and art. They explore topics such as mechanisms, electrical systems, and sustainable design, gaining a deeper understanding of how technology can be used to improve lives and steward God’s creation responsibly.

Inspiration from God’s Creation

At St Michael’s, we believe that DT celebrates the ingenuity and craftsmanship inherent in God’s design of the natural world. From the intricate patterns of leaves to the precision engineering of living organisms, children draw inspiration from the beauty and complexity of God’s creation as they design and create. DT allows children to express their creativity, problem-solving skills, and appreciation for craftsmanship, fostering a sense of awe and wonder at the limitless possibilities for innovation.

Our Commitment to Excellence in DT Education

We are committed to providing an outstanding DT education that empowers children to become confident and skilled designers and technologists. Our dedicated DT teachers inspire children to think critically, explore new ideas, and apply their knowledge to practical challenges. Through project-based learning and collaborative problem-solving, we encourage children to take risks, learn from failure, and persevere in pursuit of their goals. By integrating cutting-edge technology and sustainable practices into our DT curriculum, we prepare children to navigate a rapidly evolving world and make positive contributions to society.

Inspiring Creativity and Faith

At St Michael’s, DT is not just about creating products but about nurturing creativity, curiosity, and faith-inspired innovation. We encourage children to approach DT projects with humility and reverence for God’s creative design, recognizing their role as stewards of His creation. By embracing DT as part of our curriculum, we aim to inspire children to use their talents and skills to serve others, solve global challenges, and make a meaningful impact on the world for the glory of God.

Through our DT Curriculum, we celebrate the beauty and ingenuity of God’s creation, cultivate spiritual awareness, and empower children to become visionary designers and technologists. At St Michael’s, our vision is to inspire a generation of children who are passionate, innovative, and equipped to create positive change in our world, guided by faith and inspired by the limitless possibilities of DT.
