At St Michael’s, our collective worship is guided by the “Virtues to Live By” approach, which complements our Mission Statement: “Holding God’s Hand, we nurture hearts, minds, and spirits.” This framework helps us to instill essential virtues in our children, encouraging them to develop moral character and live out their faith in everyday actions. By focusing on virtues such as kindness, respect, honesty, and patience, we create a supportive and nurturing environment where each child can thrive.

The “Virtues to Live By” approach is deeply rooted in scripture and the teachings of Jesus Christ. Each week, our collective worship sessions center around a specific virtue, allowing children to reflect on its significance and how they can embody it in their lives. The virtues we focus on include:

  • Respect
  • Kindness
  • Honesty
  • Patience
  • Compassion
  • Forgiveness
  • Generosity
  • Justice
  • Courage
  • Hope
  • Gratitude
  • Love
  • Integrity
  • Humility
  • Service

We incorporate stories, prayers, and activities that bring these virtues to life, fostering a strong sense of community and shared values.

In addition to our collective worship at school, we encourage families to engage with these virtues at home. By sharing scripture and discussing the virtues together, we strengthen the spiritual bonds within our community. As Hebrews 10:24-25 reminds us, “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

The “Virtues to Live By” approach is more than just a curriculum; it is a way of life that helps our children grow into compassionate, responsible, and faith-filled individuals. For more information about this approach, please visit Virtues to Live By.

Each week, as part of our Monday Collective Worship, our children take around the school a poster for each class which reflects the current virtue of the week.
