At St Michael’s, we take great pride in our ‘Gardeners and Seeds’ programme, a unique initiative designed to foster a nurturing and supportive school community. In this programme, our Year 6 children , known as the ‘Gardeners,’ take on the important role of guiding and mentoring our youngest pupils, the Reception children, referred to as the ‘Seeds.’ This beautiful relationship reflects our Mission Statement: “Holding God’s Hand, we nurture hearts, minds, and spirits.”

The ‘Gardeners and Seeds’ programme is centered around the idea that every child can flourish with the right support and care. Our Year 6 Gardeners help the Seeds to grow and thrive throughout their first year at St Michael’s, offering guidance, friendship, and encouragement. This mentorship helps to create a sense of belonging and confidence in our youngest children, while also instilling a sense of responsibility and compassion in our older pupils.

Mother Teresa once said, “None of us, including me, ever do great things. But we can all do small things, with great love, and together we can do something wonderful.” This sentiment perfectly encapsulates the spirit of our ‘Gardeners and Seeds’ programme. By working together, our students learn the value of community, cooperation, and the impact of small acts of kindness.

Throughout the year, the Gardeners and Seeds engage in various activities that promote learning, growth, and mutual respect. Whether it’s sharing stories, participating in joint projects, or simply spending time together, these interactions help to build strong, lasting relationships that embody the core values of our Catholic faith.

By fostering these meaningful connections, we ensure that every child feels supported and valued as they embark on their educational journey.
